Planner's Pub: Advisory Bike Lanes with Michael Williams

  • Sam Bonds 540 East 8th Avenue Eugene, OR, 97401 United States (map)

Michael Williams is a graduate student in the Civil Engineering Department at PSU, studying transportation with an emphasis on pedestrian and bicycle facilities.

"Despite being used successfully for decades in Europe, Advisory Bike Lanes are an emerging facility type in North America and can be an effective tool for communities wishing to provide bicycle lanes on streets that are otherwise too narrow to accommodate them. This talk will introduce the concept and operation of advisory bike lanes and look at some lessons learned from the early installations of this facility in the U.S. and Canada."

Michael Williams holds a BS in Computer Engineering, an MS in Electrical Engineering and an MS in Civil Engineering. Michael holds over ten domestic and international patents. He has worked in the biomedical engineering, public works construction and active transportation fields. He concentrates on the planning and design of multimodal transportation facilities. He specializes in advisory bike lanes, protected intersections, and road diets with roundabouts.
